In this lesson, we’ll dive into a classic Bossa Nova tune – Manhã de Carnaval – better known as Black Orpheus.
You should have this a well-known jazz standard, composed by Luiz Bonfá and Antônio Maria, definitely in your repertoire.

In this lesson we’ll focus on different key aspects. The theme is based on a video I recorded with Olli Soikkeli a few years ago. You’ll learn two different interpretations of the melody: one from Olli’s perspective and one from mine.
After that, we’ll explore two soloing styles: First a typical single-note solo at an intermediate level and second a more chord-based solo that adds harmonic richness.

Rhythmically, this song is a great opportunity to expand your toolkit. We’ll work on a picking pattern that is different from the typical la pompe rhythm style – a perfect chance to extend your rhythmic vocabulary.
Let’s get started!
